Hey everyone, this marks my third venture into the realm of electric bikes. My initial experience involved a Super Electrica, an all-steel behemoth with a 36V, 250W SLA setup. While I cherished the ownership, its considerable weight made it painfully sluggish.
The second addition to my collection is a customized Supercycle featuring 24″ wheels, a robust 500W, 48V mid-motor, and a 48V ‘dolphin’ 13aH battery. This one zips around with impressive speed, and the ability to carry it up and down stairs is a definite plus. Admittedly, it’s still on the heavier side, prompting the addition of double panniers. Outfitted with flashy lights, a noisy horn, and a proper DOT helmet, it’s fully street-legal.

Enter the Jetson Bolt, my latest acquisition that I’ve been enjoying for a couple of weeks now. Weighing in at a mere 34 pounds, it runs smoothly and has garnered plenty of attention for its style and functionality. The swift delivery was an added bonus. The motor’s torque is commendable, propelling my aging self at a respectable speed, albeit half that of the Mid-motor.
What I appreciate most about the Bolt is its simplicity. No pedals, just good power, and easy handling. It’s become my go-to for quick trips to the local grocery store for essentials like milk and bread. Grabbing my coat, helmet, and bike is all I need. The only inconvenience is the absence of a basket, so I bring along my backpack to carry home my purchases.
For those seeking greater power, a carrier for belongings, and higher speeds, a larger bike might be the way to go. There’s even a bigger sibling, the Bolt Pro, for those who are truly into pedaling. However, for me, Elroy, my trusty Jetson Bolt, fits the bill perfectly.
